Firstly, congratulations on your engagement!
With seemingly so much to do and organise when planning your wedding it can be quite overwhelming; knowing what to do and at which stage can feel like a bit of a minefield.
I remember when my husband and I first started planning our wedding (we got married in 2008), we tried to be really organised and get as many of our suppliers booked, or at the very least spoken to, really early on, like 2 years prior, so that we knew how much everything would cost, and I bet we’re not alone.
However, when it came to searching for our cake maker, our experience didn’t get off to the greatest start. The first supplier we spoke to felt it was too early to start talking about our cake – now as a cake maker myself I kind of understand where they were coming from, they just didn’t explain it very well, and as an excited bride and groom we didn’t know what the process was and just wanted someone to guide us. Just to be clear from the start – it’s NEVER too early to talk to me about your wedding and your cake!
So here’s my guide to booking your wedding cake and the steps you can expect to go through in your planning…

Step 1 – Confirming Your Date
I mean it when I say it’s never too early to speak to me about your wedding cake. Once you have confirmed your date, get in touch to check availability with me. I limit one wedding booking per date so that I can devote my full time and care into each wedding cake, and so I recommend booking at least 9-12 months in advance, more in peak summer season. I already have some dates booked 2 years in advance!
Not only does this give the best chance of availability for your date, but it will ensure that nothing feels rushed and we have plenty of time to working together to design the perfect wedding cake for you.
I am happy to give you a guide price for any cake prior to booking, and your date can be secured with me for just £100 deposit, which is non-refundable or transferable.

Step 2 – Design Consultation
Around 6-8 months prior to your date, I will invite you to meet for your final design consultation where we can discuss the finer details for your design.
By this time, you will probably have settled on your colours or theme and style for your wedding, your flowers and any other styled elements, that we can use these details to ensure your cake design fits in too. You probably have a better idea on your guest numbers too so I can advise on the best size of cake to serve your guests and after our appointment I will sketch out your design for your approval before we go any further.
Step 3 – Flavours
At your design consultation, I will give you a sample box of cake flavours to take away and enjoy at home. This will include 6 of my most popular flavours for you to try, but you can of course choose a flavour from any on my menu.
Step 4 – Payment & Delivery
Once we have confirmed all of the details from the steps above and you are happy with your design, the final balance payment will be due 4 weeks before your wedding date. Once that is taken care of, you can relax knowing everything is taken care of and I am dedicated to you and your wedding. I only take on one wedding per date to ensure my absolute attention and care for your cake.
I will deliver and set up your wedding cake at your venue, liaising with the venue, florist if needed, and any other supplier, to ensure everything is perfect. The only thing for you to do is to enjoy your magical day and looking forward to cutting and tasting your wedding cake!
